I had a cancellation of a photo shoot one Saturday, and needed someone to fill in the spot to help me folio build. So I made a quick post on Facebook, and was able to fill that spot quickly. Her name was Kaylie, and we had actually already had a date in mind sometime in May to do her shoot, for something themed slightly different, but what the heck, I'll take it! Right?
So we coordinated, and she happened to have gone shopping for her prom dress the day before the shoot. I was so excited! But it was overcast and dark that day, I didn't think I would get good light, BUT I had made some new v-flats a few days before out of foam core to use as reflectors. I was anxious to give it a try. The v-flats were white, and I also made one black. They were all made out of the largest foam core boards you can get at Hobby Lobby, and I used popsicle sticks and E6000 glue to connect 6 to make a V (see picture at the bottom of the page).
Soooo...back to Kaylie. The shoot was a success, and she did wonderful! The photos were so easy to edit because she was gorgeous, and such a natural. I was quickly able to gather a few movie clips and images, and put them together for a short video. I posted the video to Facebook....and to my surprise the video has reached about 5K and was viewed about 2.6K times in 3 days! I didn't know much about Kaylie except that she went through a painful last few months due to bullying at her school- Eagle Mountain in Saginaw. This video below has reached many of her friends and family, and even shared by a few anti bullying organizations. I had no clue that I was able to reach out to someone so special and help her rebuild her confidence. Kaylie has since been more upbeat and in better spirits!
